This May marks 40 years of the J24
Atlantic Yachting is so proud to sail J24s in NY Harbor. Even after 10 years here in NY Harbor we have never found a boat as perfectly versatile for all levels of instruction while carrying the weight and waterline to handle NYC's Hudson River conditions. They are still being made today, after 40 years in production.
A little J24 history thanks to the folks at the J24 Class Association:
"Rod Johnstone’s garage-born, dream boat built by hand over a 17-month period, and launched on May 15, 1976. There were lots of stories shared, as most who were gathered had helped either build, launch or sail RAGTIME during the memorable summer of ‘76. After launching, RAGTIME and her family crew (mostly under the age of 16) would go on to win 15 of 17 races in Eastern Connecticut that summer and inspire enough people to want a sistership that Rod quit his job, asked Everett Pearson to build them, his brother Bob to sell them, and the J/24 (and J/Boats) was born."A huge thanks to the people over at J Boats for continuing to build and progress sailing after 40 years.

Our Wednesday Night Practice Sails have always been an affordable way to get on the water and practice your skills in NYC. They are priced to compete with the average cost per sail of the nearby sailing clubs, however all of our Practice Sails have an instructor aboard to answer questions and help you improve your skills.
Choose a morning session of 9:00am - 11:30am or the afternoon 12:30 - 3:00pm. If you're considering taking the ASA 103 Coastal Cruising class these are a great way to build muscle memory and get prepared. Practice Sails are also a perfect way to get on the water for fun, without the commitment of sailing club dues.

Maritime Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit based in NYC that focuses on maritime preservation, was asked to ring the Opening Bell for the Nasdaq last week. Along side Grand Banks and Hudson River Parks, Maritime Foundation was honored to be a part of the Nasdaq Bell Ceremony. Atlantic Yachting's owner Logan Rowell is a director of Maritime Foundation.

Our Charter last night was an absolute DREAM! In addition to being expert sailors, Jonathan and Kyle were consummate hosts - they pleasantly refilled drinks, played great tunes, and made sure everyone was having a nice time. It was a very relaxed 2 hours, and they occasionally "interrupted" conversation (in quotes because it was welcome) to point out particularly beautiful views, special features, and fun architectural highlights. We can't wait to get out on the water again!

We chartered a sailboat from Atlantic Yachting to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday and we had a fantastic time. Logan (the captain) was the best. Really interesting and fun to spend a couple hours with. We sailed down the Hudson and back - a 2 hour trip. It was a little cold so we were given blankets to cozy up in. We brought lunch and everything was served to us. It felt so special. We would definitely take a trip with Atlantic Yachting and have already told lots of friends!! Thanks AY for making the day so special for us!!

The best birthday present of all time! The crew was very friendly and welcoming. They gave us the choice between sailing and using the motor. Sailing without the motor was extremely peaceful. I will definitely use Atlantic Yachting for any future sailing trips and lessons!

There is no other sailing service in NYC that is as pleasant to sail with as Atlantic Yachting. Their website is incredibly easy to use for booking a private charter (or sailing lessons), which was the first indication to me that these guys are professional and know what they're doing. My suspicions were confirmed when we arrived at the Boat Basin and were led to the boat by Mariette, who continued to provide excellent service for our 3-hour Mother's Day sail. It's BYOB and BYOF(ood), but they handle putting out drinks and food with utensils, etc. Very attentive service and very relaxed atmosphere.
The boat itself is beautiful, and our captain Jonathan was an absolute pleasure to sail with. He let us steer the boat and had a fun talk with us, but he also let us alone to do our own thing. It was just so relaxing. They also have an excellent sound system on the boat and we played our own music the whole time.
It is not worth looking anywhere else if you want a peaceful and professional experience. These guys know what they're doing and will take great care of you. My family and I cannot wait to find an excuse to go sailing again with them.

Yonkers Fireworks July 2nd
We're sold out for the NYC July 4th Fireworks but there are still some great options for getting on the water!
1) Yonkers Fireworks are actually this Thursday the 2nd. Join us on our new boat Dauphine for a ride north into the Palisades from 8pm-11pm for a wonderful show. Best part.... it's the normal 3hr rate of $690.

We all know that docking isn't easy. And sometimes its stressful. Thanks to AV-OG-TIL (a Norwegian NGO, working to reduce the harmful effects of alcohol) for a great video.
It's also a poignant point about alcohol they make as we lead up to the 4th of July. Keep it real on the water everyone and we'll see you out there.

Every year we participate in the United States Coast Guard voluntary safety checks to ensure our vessels are safe.
Due to an immense amount of off-season maintenance and preparation, our fleet of J24s as well as our Beneteau 43 always pass with flying colors.
We are happy to to have our 2015 stickers on each boat and greatly appreciate the time of the USCG Aux for offering such a great service.

Extremely excellent service. We had a beautiful three hour private charter for Mother's Day, and were totally delighted. The captain, Jonathan, and his assistant Mariette were incredibly nice and attentive. We brought our own wine and food, but they handled setting it out w/ utensils as well as continually refilling our drinks.
The boat itself is very beautiful and clearly well taken care of. We reserved a three hour charter not knowing what we were getting into really, and we were so pleased with absolutely everything.
Can't wait to come back and do it again!

Our trip was incredible - We planned a birthday surprise, and it went off without a hitch. We sailed south on a beautiful evening. Jonathon and Nate were exceptionally capable, eager to please and very skilled. We cut the motor and were able to sail, which was incredibly peaceful. The level of service was impeccable, from the moment we arrived at the dock. Would highly recommend Atlantic Yachting. Can't wait to try a lesson!

What a spectacular evening! Whether you're a tourist or a native New Yorker looking for a fun way to see the city at its best, Atlantic Yachting is the way to go! I found the staff to be incredibly knowledgable and helpful, the boats pristine and the service second to none. The tour was both exhilarating and relaxing; it was like seeing New York again for the first time! It's a wonderful way to spend a night out with friends- especially if you're looking for something to satisfy the picky, been-there-done-that traveler. Weekend on a boat, with oysters!
The wildly popular Oyster Bar on a historic sailing ship is opening this Friday, May 15th. If there's ever a place to relax with incredible sunsets as well as city views, it's Grand Banks while their docked for the summer at Pier 25 in Tribeca. Check out the Grand Banks website for more info.
How are we involved? Atlantic Yachting Owner, Logan Rowell, is proud to serve on the board of Maritime Foundation, owners of the Sherman Zwicker and home to Grand Banks. Maritime Foundation is a NYC based non-profit dedicated to the preservation of historic vessels and other maritime history.
Maritime Foundation's newest preservation project is an 1850's era Oyster Barge that was in imminent danger of destruction. Check out the great New York Times piece on the Oyster Barge.
So if you can't join us for a Sailboat Charter or a Sailing Lesson, at least go grab a drink on a sailboat. And don't forget, if you want to arrive at Grand Bank in style, we can do that for you.

If you follow the blog you have read about Atlantic Yachting Sailing School grads Greg and Kaycee. These two Canadians traded frozen careers in the arctic circle for a 41 foot catamaran. Only one catch....they'd never sailed before.
After an incredible amount of hard work on their parts cleaning up and prepping Oceanna, and some intense Private Lessons with Atlantic Yachting, they were off the horizon. It's only been a little more than a year since they sailed away from us, and they just sailed into the Galapagos. Incredible! They've battles the Gulf Stream currents, cruised the Bahamas, made landfall in South America, crossed the Panama Canal, passed over the Equator, and now they're in the Galapagos exploring it's untouched beauty before crossing the Pacific. We got word via satellite of Stand Up Paddleboarding across the Equator beside the boat and some other wild stories.
