You always stumble upon the coolest artifacts sailing in New York City. We found this life ring on the Diplomat, a once lovely yacht from the early 1950's, that is in serious dis-repair at a marina on the shore of the Hudson.

Bruno

Bruno is a fixture at the Boat Basin and a spiritual advisor to Atlantic Yachting. He can be found almost any day down at the docks working on his sailboat, tending to his tomato plants, and setting out on fishing trips in the Hudson. Originally from Rome, he makes the best spaghetti on the Upper West Side and will gladly share stories of his fishing trips around the world.

Last Day of the Season

Unusually warm weather and exceptional winds convinced us to stay open all the way until November. But now the time has truly come and we are starting to put the boats in dry dock and prepare winter.

We have just had our best season yet and we thank everyone who came out to sail with us. We hope all of you enjoyed yourselves, learned something new, have great memories of your sails with us, and remember to join us for more great sailing next year.

In the meantime, we'll be spending the winter sailing, fishing, and sunning in Hawaii. If you're in the neighborhood, we would love to hear from you.

Sent my son and daughter last summer. They had a blast and learned a ton. They ended up staying for an additional session and became quite good little sailors. Sperry vs. Sebago

Sperry Topsiders vs. Sebago Docksides: which is the real sailing shoe? There is little consensus. At Atlantic Yachting we've got strong advocates in each camp. But I'm writing this, so the answer for now, Sebago!

I took my mom for a surprise sail for her birthday and she LOVED it. This was the highlight of our trip to New York. We were going to go on the circle line when our concierge recommended Atlantic Yachting instead and we took a chance. WOW. Wow. We just saw this thing on the water! Crazy gigantic! She is the U.S.S. New York and is made (partially) from remnants of the World Trade Center.

We are excited to be included with a few of our fellow sailors in an article about family sailing in New York City.

"Family sailing lessons have a different vibe than group lessons with strangers. For starters, children are better students," said Miles Pincus, an owner of Atlantic Yachting, which offers, among other programs, a three-hour Introduction to Sailing for curious families.

“Kids are very used to learning,” Mr. Pincus said. “They’re used to being taught. Adults are not used to that. They tend to take their own route. A lot of adults try to manhandle the situation. It just doesn’t work that way.”

It's Officially Summer

Well not quite summer, but we've had such amazing weather all week! We're off to an amazing season so far. We've had so many great sails its hard to keep track of them all. So far we've already had four people get engaged on our boats in May (we maintain our perfect record) and celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and even some skipped days of work. We've still got a few openings left for Memorial Day weekend charters, so now is the time to grab them.
