Fleet Week 2011

Fleet Week New York City 2011

As the ships begun to sail in for Fleet Week, we saw some amazingly large Navy battleships and submarines pass by the Boat Basin - including the unbelievable USS New York.

One of the best and most interesting ways to get close to the Fleet Week action is to take a private sailboat charter, where we sail as close as you can possibly get to these magnificent ships.

Even if you can't see it from the water, it is worth trying to see from land. Head down to the Hudson river's edge, and you will certainly catch a glimpse.

Wednesday Evening Practice Sails | NEW!

Practice Sailing in NYC, Sailing Opportunities, Get More Sailing Experience

One of the great new things we are doing this season is offering a fun, easy going and affordable way to practice your sailing skills. On Wednesday nights, we now offer practice sails, where you can sail for two and a half hours with an instructor in a casual atmosphere and hone your skills.

It is an informal lesson, mostly focused on sailing and having a good time, but still offering the opportunity to ask questions, practice, and learn. These sails are reserved for people who have passed ASA 101 Basic Keelboat or have equivalent skills. The sails include up to four guests and an instructor and cost $125 per person. On our way back to the dock, we'll pass around free Coronas and enjoy sailing the way its meant to be done!

The Hudson | America's River

The Hudson, America's River

Frances F. Dunwell is the author of Hudson River Highlands and has spent over thirty years in a number of nonprofit and governmental positions dedicated to conserving the natural and historic heritage of the Hudson River.

Her book, The Hudson | America's river, presents a rich portrait of the Hudson and of the visionary people whose deep relationship with the river inspires changes in American history and culture. Lavishly illustrated with color plates of Hudson River School paintings, period engravings, and glass plate photography, The Hudson captures the spirit of the river through the eyes of its many admirers. It shows the crucial role of the Hudson in the shaping of Manhattan, the rise of the Empire State, and the trajectory of world trade and global politics, as well as the river's influence on art and architecture, engineering, and conservation.

Atlantic Yachting featured in Home and Garden Ideas

Bachelor Party NYC Rent a Boat

We're featured in an article about NYC Bachelor Parties in Home and Garden Ideas. They put it quite well:

"The groom that loves taking to the water will really appreciate a NYC sailing weekend. Your crew will learn how to really be a crew with sailing lessons from Atlantic Yachting. Emphasizing "learning through experience," this sailing company can teach everyone, from the friend who could probably steer a wayward sailboat to safety if he had to, to the friend who never got his sea legs. The two-day course promises that you and your friends will be at the helm the first day, and that by the second day, it wouldn't be wrong to call any of you "Skipper." You can finish your day out with a private dinner sailing cruise for you and your friends, but this time with nothing for you to do but relax and party."

Mother Goose

A Mother Goose in a Life Ring at the 79th Street Boat Basin
After a beautiful sail yesterday afternoon, we stumbled upon this lovely Canadian Goose at the 79th Street Boat Basin. She has made herself a cozy little nest in a life ring at the southern edge of the docks. She seemed to be incubating eggs, so we are looking forward to a bunch of cute baby geese running around the docks sometime this month.
