Beneteau Launch

Boat Launch
After a long cold winter and some loving maintenance, we re-launched our vessels today from our boat yard just up the Hudson. It was a very exciting morning as we watched the enormous boat cranes carry our fleet into the water. Here you can see our 42' Beneteau being cradled by this amazing lift. And you can see one of our captains riding along looking miniature.

Fisherman Lights by TAF

Fisherman Lights by TAF

We love these Fisherman Lights produced by the Swedish design firm TAF. Made from hand knitted nets that surround polypropelene globes, the lights mimic the look and feel of antique fishing floats.

Love Love

Julien Berthier Love Love Art Sailboat
We love Julien Berthier's art-boat  Love Love, though the Coast Guard probably does not. The French artist has designed a fully functional boat to look as if it is sinking. The 6.5m (21ft) yacht was cut in half with a new keel and motor added so it remains in the sinking position while being fully functional. He describes it as "the permanent and mobile image of a wrecked ship that has become a functional and safe leisure object."

Excellent Sailing Class!

Lily on City Search Says:

I took their Basic Sailing course over one weekend last summer with a friend and it was great! My instructor (Jonathan, I think) was very thorough and very cool and laid back in just the right way. He clearly knew what he was doing sailing-wise and made the class really fun and entertaining. I just signed up for another course (coastal) for this summer and it reminded me about what an awesome experience we had last summer. The only downside is that they don't rent their boats out without one of their staff on board, but that seems to be the case in this area. Overall, I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking to learn to sail. A great way to spend the weekend and a great company to do it with!

New Balance + Concepts "Kennedy Edition"

Here are some new nautical themed running shoes from New Balance called "999" that are meant to be reminiscent of the Kennedy's love of all things sailing. We can't vouch for the connection, but they will work on land for sure.

Five Stars

Thienly on Yahoo says:

I splurged for my birthday last year and booked a private sailboat charter with some friends and I am so glad I did. It was so much fun! They let you bring whatever you want on your sail instead of make you eat their stuff (usually not the best) so we brought bread and cheese and snacks and stuff to make martinis yacht style and we had such a blast. We got to the Statue of Liberty just at sunset (amazing!) and sailed back as it was getting dark. Very, very cool to see New York from this perspective. In terms of the company - excellent service, super nice and helpful and cool when we wanted to listen to Sinatra sing NY, NY when we got to lady liberty - cheesy I know but I blame the martinis! These guys do a great job. Only negative was that we wanted to keep sailing but they had another sail booked after us so we had to go back. They just emailed me a sweet discount code for being a loyal customer (not sure how one time makes me loyal but I will take it!) so I am going to go again for my birthday this year. But this time I will book for a longer trip!

Awesome Experience

Isabelle on City Search says:

My friends and I had an amazing experience sailing with Atlantic Yachting.

The views of the city were spectacular, the crew was knowledgeable and charming, the boat was luxurious, and the reservation process painless!

What I loved most was sitting on the front of the boat, drinks in hand, taking in the calm breeze on the Hudson. It was one of the best escapes I've ever had.

Beautiful Knot Drawings

Vintage Sailing Knot Drawings
Look at these wonderful drawings done by one of our heroes, Philippe Petit, the high wire artist who illegally walked a tight rope between the original World Trade Center buildings. The drawings are part of the exhibition: LINE UP: RIGGING KNOTS + GLIMPSES OF A MASTER CLASS at the Clic Gallery.
